Macbeth

Macbeth
William Shakespeare (modified to modern English by SparkNotes)
219 pages, either double or triple pages

After Macbeth defeated the armies of Norway and Ireland, he came across three witches who foretold he would be thane of Cawdor and king of Scotland. Surprisingly enough, King Duncan promoted Macbeth to thane of Cawdor. However, the promotion went to his head and put murderous thoughts into his mind. Macbeth killed Duncan and became king. The power went to his head more as people start rebelling, so he visited the witches once again, and they told him to fear the day Birnam Wood marches to Dunsinane Hill and fear not anyone born of woman. In the days following, rebel armies took pieces of Birnam Wood and marched with the branches to Dunsinane.
The brave Macduff, ripped out of his mother's womb and not naturally born, defeats Macbeth. Duncan's son Malcom was crowned king, and order was restored to Scotland.

Calvin Crest Outdoor School

Just about everyone had a great camp experience, and I'm no exception. I had a great deal of fun at camp. Over the period of this post I will summarize the clases we took and events that took place.

                                            Night Hike
You couldn't see much on the night hike, but you could hear a lot and trip easily. We learned about the Miwok tradition of spending a night in the woods before you could be a man.

[Ullner] Orienteering
In Orienteering, we learned how to use compasses. However, because Miss Ullner was teaching us, it was a lot more complicated than just walking around the woods. We were stranded on an alien planet, and had to orienteer our way out.

                           Rock Your World!
In Rock Your World we learned about the rock cycle (Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary. Say Whaa?), erosion, weathering, deposition, and mass wasting. In addition, I found obsidian on the Rock Your World Trail.

                                   Astronomy Night
Astronomy Night was great! We made Star Charts and saw so many pictures of different galaxies, stars, and nebulae.

            Giant Sequoia
On the Giant Sequoia hike, we hiked up to Seqouia National Park and observed the forests and types of trees. The Giant Sequoias, as their name suggests, were enourmous! It took 19 students in a human chain to wrap around a 2,000 year old tree, and 2,000 years isn't very old for a sequoia!

                                            Initiatives
Initiatives was all about trust and teamwork. In the first initiative I did, Incomplete Bridge, the team had to get across from the first platform to the third platforms, using only two boards of wood. It tuned out incomplete. On the second initiative, Ants on a Log, the team was split up into two. Left team had to get to the right of the log, vice versa. Also incomplete. Third Initiative: cross from Downsville, across the Lava River of Doom, and end up in Happyland. The Chickarees used two methods: Ferry, and One Person on Mats at all Times. The second worked. Final initiative: Spider Web. In Spider Web, all players had to cross through the spider web to the other side.

                                 Skit Night
One of my favorite nights. Everyone performed a skit with their cabin. The skits included "The Tragedy of MacVader," "Candy Shoppe," "The Firing Squad," and many more.

                                   Survival
Kind of self explanatory. We learned how to survive in the wilderness, and what you can and cannot eat.

                                       Miwok
On the Miwok Trail we learned all about the Miwok: How they hunted, their uses for mugwort and soaproot, their belief system, etc., etc.

                                      Logger's Jamboree
A variation of free time. We did tons of logging-based activities, such as Ladder of Doom.

                                     Quiz Night
A big Wheel of Fortune type game full of questions relating to the classes we took. It was fun winning, even though my cabin had to wash dishes.

Well that's all for now. Took a long time to type.

The Red Pyramid

 The Red Pyramid
 Rick Riordan
 516 Pages

File:The Red Pyramid cover.jpg
The Red Pyramid, a 516 page book by Rick Riordan, tells the story of two children who learn they are hosting the Egyptian gods Horus and Isis. The children, Carter and Sadie, go on adventures with their cat, who turns out to be hosting the cat goddess Bast, to defeat the chaotic god Set and strengthen Ma'at, or order. Strongly reccomended for anyone who likes Percy Jackson.

MN Project

The following is my choice of music for MN.

Departure_to_the_Front_Lines-- This is perfect for when Digory and Polly first meet!!!

Brinstar Depths-- An arriving in Charn song. It sounds so confusing, scary, and mysterious, just like Charn is.

Akatsuki_Theme -- I chose this for Charn when the buildings are collapsing and Jadis is taking Digory and Polly away. It was written for a show, and is played when there are evil people around, so it fits the mood.

Fire_Emblem_Theme --This song greatly reminds me of the creation of Narnia. It just seems like a beginning!!!!

Poke`_Floats --I chose this for when Polly, Digory, and Fledge are flying, escaping Jadis. Can you imagine them flying through the air with this music playing?

Note: The Fire Emblem Theme is in Latin. It translates to

Fire Emblem, companions walk
The endless path together.

In the wavering shadow of spite,
Our home is faced by the oncoming spear,
Engulfed in flames.

I keep that unforgettable day in my heart
And now rise up together with my companions.

Fire Emblem, our bond shall be never broken.

We hold fast to protect tomorrow
And the one who awaits our return.

Fire Emblem, light gathers on the flag we unfurl.

Fire Emblem, we gaze upon the multitude of stars,
Gripping our blades.

If we do not bring light to the darkness in these lands,
The shooting stars will soar over a wasteland.

Fire Emblem, on whom does the morning sun shine
As she climbs over the edge of battle?

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables
Lucy Maud Montgomery
188 Pages

Montgomery Anne of Green Gables.jpg
Anne of Green Gables  is the story of the trial and errors of Anne Shirley, an orphan adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The Cuthberts expect a quiet, hardworking boy, but get a talkative girl instead. Anne ends up going to school and working hard to become a teacher. I recommend this book for everyone.

Alex Rider Bleets

Bleets on some books I recently read.

Strongly recommended for anyone who loves action.

Skeleton Key
Anthony Horowitz

Alex discovers Sarov is going to set the world at war by blowing up radioactive submarines in Russia, which will form radioactive clouds that would drift throughout the world. Sarov's plan is stopped because he committed suicide. Recommended to everyone who likes the subject of nuclear war, action, or spies.

Eagle Strike

   Alex Rider: Eagle Strike
   Anthony Horowitz
   322 pages, double paged

In Alex Rider: Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz, Alex Rider wants Damian Cray investigated, but MI6, Alex's "employer" in the spy business, will get in trouble if they do. Because of this, Alex decides to investigate Cray by himself. In the process of investigating Cray, Alex discovers Cray is going to kill millions of people by firing missiles at drug factories all around the world. Finally, Cray kidnaps Alex and overtakes the Air Force One, where he takes Alex and Cray's minions; a fight breaks out and Cray is killed, and, the world is once again saved by Alex Rider, reluctant teen superspy.

Alex Rider shows many character traits, but he mainly shows bravery. For example, in Eagle Strike, Alex is being shot at with a machine gun, yet he still finds the courage and bravery to dodge and jump down a pipe from the 10th story of a building! Another example of Alex's bravery is when he was captured and thrown into an area based off of a video game, he showed bravery by "cheating" his way out of the area. A final example of Alex Rider's bravery is even as he had been shot and cracked a rib, he continued to fight Damian Cray until Cray died. Obviously, Alex Rider is very brave and valorous.

My song

My song is the Nutcracker Suite, composed by Tchaikovsky. I chose this as my song because it was the very first piece, and my favorite, of classical music I ever heard. Also, it reminds me of Christmastime (the most wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful time of the year), which is a very happy time for me.

(When going to the link, click the first song)

Another song I like is here.
